MT PLEASANT HERPS TEQUILA SUNRISE EXPLORATION PROJECT….it continues…
Here at Mt Pleasant Herps, five years ago, we decided to explore the mystery of the Tequila Sunrise morph from a different perspective. Beginning with our Tequila Sunrise female, Edren, and onward to many pairings producing a vast multitude of morph-types with a half to a full compliment of “TS Genes” we have come to the conclusion that the “TS Genes” are actually Modifying Genes.
To date, we’ve identified at least three ways the TS Genes can modify a particular morph.
Modification A, Mod A, the Pattern Modifier effects pattern. Mod A reduces the recognized normal pattern on Corn Snakes. Examples include the “lacing” affect upon solid saddles, and the abbreviation of lateral tesserations of the Tessera pattern.
Modification B, Mod B, the Finish Modifier effects overall morph appearance. Mod B ads luster. This is most apparent on morphs that are erythristic. Luster is accentuated in bright light, or with a camera flash.
Modification C, Mod C, the Color Modifier, effects overall coloration. Mod C accentuates colors in the red spectrum. Examples include: red saddles have a deeper, richer hue quality than that seen on corresponding non-TS morphs; pinky ground color is notably intensified over that seen in corresponding non-TS morphs.
Note: Modification B & C may always be paired. Further investigation is planned.
At this point in time, it appears Modification A can occur independent of Mod B & C, and also is dominant to normal patterns. ( I.e. can be fully expressed in those having only a half compliment of TS Gene Modifier A )
As much as we might want to, we cannot hold-back all hatchlings of this Tequila Sunrise Exploration Project! So we had to choose a select few to keep and grow up to see how these TS Modifiers continue to effect morph coloration up through color-maturity.
